The Kangaroo & Emu

This post looks at some things to consider for the ‘tails side’ of Australian KGV florins – a series that ran from 1911-1936.

Design details

The basic design for the reverse throughout the period was a ‘coat of arms’ featuring a kangaroo and an emu.

It comes in two basic flavours – the later design appeared from 1938…

Wear

On the earlier coins, the high points of the design are

  • the central point of the star
  • the emu’s feathers
  • the scroll reading “ADVANCE AUSTRALIA”
